Mrs Marie Fenton..........Headteacher

Our Eco Team deciding how best to conserve energy and enhance
the natural elements of our school grounds.

Spring Time
In the spring time lots of new 'things' start to appear-
new plants, new animals, even new playgrounds....
It's hard to believe the ground was covered in frost this morning!

Oooo! Never mind the astro turf, I've found some sand.

And to help keep us safe we have a new gate and extra railings in the front playground.

Thanks to Mr Linton, we also have some bike racks so now we can start being healthier and cycle to school.

World Book Day
We had the best fun dressing up as our favourite literary characters.

                Scottish Day

Poetry, Music and Dance
We were very proud to invite our families and official guests to our celebration of Scottish culture.
Cllr Day May joined us and was particularly impressed with our jigs and reels.

To round off the afternoon, members of our Parent Council kindly prepared and served refreshments including Scottish butter shortbread -
it's so nice to be spoiled!

Hae a go yersel!

Scots Wha Hae

Scots wha hae wae Wallace bled,

Scots wham Bruce hae aftimes led,

Welcome tae your gory bed,

Or tae victory

Now's the day and now's the hour,

See the front o battle lour,

See approach proud Edward's power,

Chains and slavery

Wha will be a traitor knave,

Wha can fill a coward's grave

Wha sae base as be a slave,

let him turn and flee,

Wha for Scotland's king and law,

Freedom's sword will strongly draw,

Freeman stand and freeman fa,

let him follow me.

By oppressions woes and pains,

By your sons in servile chains,

We will drain our dearest veins,

But they shall be free.

Lay the proud usurpers low,

Tyrants fall in every foe,

Liberty's in every blow,

let us do or dee.

To A Mouse
Wee, sleeket, cowran, tim'rous beastie,
O, what panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
Wi' bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murd'ring pattle!

I'm truly sorry Man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
An' justifies that ill opinion,
Which makes thee startle,
At me, thy poor, earth-born companion,
An' fellow-mortal!

I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve;
What then? poor beastie, thou maun live!
A daimen-icker in a thrave 'S a sma' request:
I'll get a blessin wi' the lave,
An' never miss't!

Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin!
It's silly wa's the win's are strewin!
An' naething, now, to big a new ane,
O' foggage green!
An' bleak December's winds ensuin,
Baith snell an' keen!

Thou saw the fields laid bare an' wast,
An' weary Winter comin fast,
An' cozie here, beneath the blast,
Thou thought to dwell,
Till crash! the cruel coulter past
Out thro' thy cell.

That wee-bit heap o' leaves an' stibble,
Has cost thee monie a weary nibble!
Now thou's turn'd out, for a' thy trouble,
But house or hald.
To thole the Winter's sleety dribble,
An' cranreuch cauld!

But Mousie, thou are no thy-lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men,
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!

Still, thou art blest, compar'd wi' me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But Och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An' forward, tho' I canna see,
I guess an' fear!

If you fancy trying your hand at the North East Scots Doric
The Wild Cat’s Mistake is a fine wee story for the bairns.

 Education Mass 2014

The Ashby clan, accompanying Mrs Fenton to the annual Education Mass.

This year's celebration took place in the Cathedral, Dundee and was concelebrated by
Bishop Robson and the diocesan priests.
It was a beautiful Mass which was organised by the staff and pupils of
St Ninian's Primary School.

Our Very Special Day

Here are our First Communicants.

Mini Commonwealth Games
To celebrate the coming of the Commonwealth games, Mr McLaren (our Active Schools Co-ordinator) organised a mini Commonwealth Games for the Montrose cluster primary schools.

First he came and taught us about the history of the Games and all the countries which are involved.

Young sports Leaders from Montrose Academy helped to run the event.

Each school had their own colour of tee-shirt and we each had a competition to design our school banner.

Here you can see the winning design in all its giant glory.

We were by far the smallest competing team but that didn't stop us from collecting a healthy crop of medals.

It was a morning of tremendous fun, excitement and team spirit. It was also really good to be taking part with all the other primary schools, recognising friends and meeting new ones.

Speed Challenge

Nursery boys and girls counted the mushroom cones as fast as they could.

As always we start with a warm up session.

We were practicing for target skills.

Yowsa!!!

We took turns in classes at the two activities; that way we didn't have to wait too long.

To complete the fun afternoon, the sun came out and it really felt like summer.

Then we played for speed.
we had a special speed gun which recorded the speed of the travelling ball.
Even the mums and staff joined in the fun- regardless the footwear.

.
Nice shot Mrs Tasker!

Visiting the Reaper

We were very lucky to have the opportunity to visit one of the
very last traditional herring boats when it docked in
Montrose Harbour for a few days.

It was a typically 'dreich' Scottish day for a walking trip but it was wonderfully cosy inside the cabins.
